3 Reasons Why Your Online Course Isn’t Selling
Creating an online course is a big project, so it can be disheartening when it’s not selling!
If you’ve spent a lot of time creating the perfect online course, but it just isn’t selling, there are a couple of things you should look at.
In this post, I’ll share the top 3 reasons your online course isn’t selling and what you can do to start getting more sales coming in!
1) Your messaging might be off
The number one reason why your online course might not be selling is likely because of your messaging.
A lot of course creators want to focus on sharing about “what’s included” in their amazing course, but what your potential customers really want to know is, ‘how will this help me?’
Focus on who your course is for, how that person is currently feeling, and how they will feel AFTER taking your online course. It’s that transformation that they’re buying so you’ll want to make sure you’re clearly spelling out what they’ll get out of going through your course!
If you can communicate that in a way that makes your ideal student say, “Yes! This is me, and I want to feel this way. I need this!” then you will almost definitely see a better conversion rate.

2) You didn’t validate your course idea before you made it
If you didn’t take the time during the planning process to validate your course idea through competitor research, market research, or by pre-selling it, it’s possible the content or format just isn’t what your ideal customer needs right now.
Does a different container make sense for your audience? For example, a 4-week intensive vs. a 12-week live course.
Does your course give them what they need to get from point A to point B? You might consider niching down the topic or adding more to help your audience’s pain point.
Or maybe do you have the right content and container, but the way you’re describing your offer isn’t how your ideal customers are thinking about their problem or desired solution? You’ll do well chatting with a few people who fit your target audience to learn how they’re speaking about your topic and using those terms & phrases in your copy
3) Your marketing needs improving
If it’s not messaging or validation that’s causing slow (or no) sales, it’s likely your marketing.
Creating an online course is a great additional revenue stream, but you’ll need to create a great marketing launch plan or evergreen marketing plan to actually sell your new product.
It’s also possible that your audience doesn’t trust you enough to buy yet. That’s okay! That just means that you need to spend more time brainstorming how to nurture them for the next time you are launching or promoting this course.
