5 Tips to grow your email list with your Squarespace website

I bet you’ve heard people say that “the money is in the list”, right?

And while it may be cliché it’s also true!

That’s because once you get someone onto your email list, you have far more opportunities to connect with them on a closer level than you can almost anywhere else!

So to make more sales (and earn that money!) for your business, you need to build an email list full of subscribers who are interested in what you have to offer.

Now, you’re how do you go about doing that? And how can your Squarespace website help do some of the heavy lifting?

In this blog post, I'll share some tips on how to grow your email list with your Squarespace* website so you can sell more of your amazing services. Keep reading for details.

5 Tips to Grow Your Email List with your Squarespace Website

1) Create the Perfect Lead Magnet

One of the best ways to grow your email list is by creating a lead magnet (also called a freebie or an opt-in). This is an incentive that you offer your potential subscribers in exchange for their contact information.

Lead magnets can be anything that provides additional value to your website visitor, whether that be a free guide, e-book, video tutorial, or another type of gated content that's relevant to your niche. When people see the value in what you're sharing for free, they are more likely to stick around on your email list.

2) Create a dedicated landing page on your Squarespace website for your lead magnet

Now you have your amazing lead magnet, you need a dedicated page to send people to when they want to sign up for it! You can create a page directly in your Squarespace website to promote your lead magnet and simply embed your newsletter sign up form into the page using either Squarespace’s form block if your email list is hosted by Squarespace or using a code block and the embed code from any other email service provider’s form.

Check out a great (if I do say so myself!) example of a Squarespace landing page right here for my free Life-First Business Assessment.

On this lead magnet landing page make sure you really “sell” your free offer by including an enticing headline that spells out what your new subscriber will be getting by signing up, a mockup of your free offer and some details about what’s included.

It’s also very important you include the right legal disclaimer and set up the correct GDPR settings in your email provider whenever asking for people to join your email list!

And in case you were wondering, I do recommend building this landing page directly on your Squarespace website vs on a landing page builder for a few reasons:

  1. It’s super easy to stay on brand

  2. You can control the look and layout of your landing page far better on Squarespace

  3. You’ll gather helpful analytics from your website that can help you adjust your lead magnet strategy

3) Promote your lead magnet all over your Squarespace website

Go ham on sharing your lead magnet all over your homepage, about page, in your blog posts and basically anywhere else you can! You’ll have far better chances of having people sign up to your email list if you give them lots of opportunities to do so, so make sure you share lots of chances for people to grab your lead magnet all over your site.

Speaking of which…

Some lesser know, but very effective, places to share your lead magnet on your Squarespace website are:

  • Adding an announcement bar to the top of your website linking to your lead magnet landing page

  • Putting a form to sign up for your email list at the bottom of each of your blog posts (like you’ll see at the bottom of this post)

  • Adding a form into your website’s footer is another great place to offer people the chance to join your email list

  • Sharing your lead magnet on your thank you page for anyone who’s filled out your contact form

4) Include a pop up on your Squarespace to offer one last chance for visitors to sign up for your lead magnet

While pop ups can be annoying when overused or shown too quickly, when presented at the right time they can be a very effective way to get people to sign up for your email list. Did you see that one that poped up when you opened my site - that’s a prime example!

If you are using Squarespace’s inbuilt pop up feature, try setting it to display after someone has been on your website long enough to know they like what you have to say, around 15-30 seconds is usually good.

You can also set your popup to display after someone has scrolled a certain amount down the page, say 50% or so. You want to make sure someone is far enough down your page before you show them your pop up to not annoy them or show up when they may already be interested one of your offers.

5) Mention your lead magnet frequently in your content

One of the most effective ways to continue to drive traffic to your lead magnet is to share it frequently in the content you create. Mention your lead magnet, like my free Life-First Business Assessment, in your blog posts (see what I did there!) so anyone who consumes your content is invited to sign up for your email list.

You can, and probably should, share your lead magnet regularly on social media and make sure to send them to that landing page you created for your lead magnet over on your Squarespace website so they can sign up directly on your website!

Final Thoughts

If you're looking for ways to grow your email list, grow your business, or make more sales in general with your website- then these tips should help! Remember it’s key to offer something of value in exchange for someone’s email and to offer them plenty of opportunities to sign up, so focus on creating that value and providing lots of places on your Squarespace website for them to join your list!
