Here’s a breakdown of the different Squarespace versions

The most recent version of Squarespace is 7.1.

This is the version where the development team is putting all of their energy and where you’ll see all of the new updates. Unlike with past versions of Squarespace, 7.1 is constantly being updated so while you do get the latest and greatest tools, you may notice things changing a bit each time you log into your website.

The previous version of Squarespace was 7.0.

This was a very popular version and is still preferred by some designers and clients because it is more stable, meaning there aren’t continual updates being made to the platform. And while that does sound appealing, it also means that websites built on 7.0 aren’t getting to take advantage of all of the new features and updates that Squarespace is offering. There is also a risk that one day Squarespace will fully shift their energy towards 7.1 and getting support for your 7.0 website will be more of a challenge.

There are many older versions of Squarespace as well, but for anyone running a business with an online presence, it’s probably best to stick to one of these latest versions.
