How to Repurpose Older Podcast Episodes
As a podcast host, I know how much work goes into each episode, so it’d be a shame to not use that amazing content beyond the week the episode airs wouldn’t it?
Maximizing the reach and impact of the content you’re already creating is a lot easier if you know how to repurpose your older podcast episodes. In this post, I will share some examples of how you can repurpose and reuse the content from your older podcast episodes.
What is Podcast Content Repurposing?
First, I wanted to explain a little bit more about what content repurposing means. Content repurposing simply means finding new ways to reuse content you’ve already created. And your podcast episodes are a terrific source for quality content that’s prime for repurposing!
The First Step: Break It Down
When looking at a podcast episode for repurposable content, an easy first step is reviewing the content and breaking it down into little golden nuggets of wisdom or valuable info for your audience.
You can simply jot these down to reuse, but a quick tip is to use the timestamps you’ve probably already created for your show notes to keep track of your pearls of wisdom!
We can then turn each mini topic or golden nugget into:
1) Write an Email Newsletter on Each Timestamped Topic
A simple yet very impactful way to resuse your podcast content is to pull out those timestamped topics and write a new email newsletter specifically about it! You can even go deeper into your idea, link to further resources or simply encourage your readers to go back and listen to that episode.
Having an easy-to-use system to track your podcast episodes makes this a lot easier! Check out the Podcast Host Toolkit for a robust podcast management system built in Notion!
2) Write a New Blog Post
Taking each of those timestamped ideas and creating a new blog post that is more in-depth around each of those points or topics is a fantastic way to repurpose your content. Not only are you getting more mileage out of your content, but if you optimize your blog post for SEO, you’ll be making it easier for more people to find you via your content!
Plus, if blogging is a big part of your content marketing strategy reusing your podcast information and content will be a huge time saver for creating and writing all of this content.
This is another repurposing task made a whole lot easier with the Podcast Host Toolkit 😉
3) Re-Share on Pinterest with New Pin Designs
Another great way to add more love to older podcast episodes is to re-share that episode on Pinterest by simply creating new pin designs using Canva*. Pinterest loves fresh content, which really just means you need to create a new image. You could even create a couple of new pin designs for each one of your older episodes to make the re-sharing even more impactful!
4) Create Quote Graphics for Social Media
The awesome thing about podcasts is that they’re often filled with so many great quotes! Go through your old episode transcripts, and pull some new quotes that you can add to quote graphics and share on social media.
5) Audiograms for Social Media
You may have already created an audiogram when each podcast episode was first published, but here's the beautiful thing about it - you can make new audiograms for older podcast episodes. You can turn an audio snippet into a video and share it across multiple social media channels and formats.
You could reuse the same piece of audio to create an audiogram for an Instagram post, a Facebook post, a LinkedIn post, an Instagram reel, and an Instagram story. That is a lot of pieces of content from one tiny audio clip from one episode!
Final Thoughts
