Plan how you’re going to present the information on each page
Page layouts are simply the way that we are presenting the information on every page of your website. Once you've figured out what information you want to share on each page of your site, you'll want to break that down even further into each of the different topics, basically every idea and have those be each of the different sections on your page.
Each idea should be it’s own section of your page
Break down your pages into each distinct idea. Those individual ideas are going to make up the sections of your page.
Every section needs a skimmable headline that gives the “gist”
You want to make sure that every one of those sections has a really clear and skimmable headline that gives people the gist of what that section is about.
We're going to assume that most people are going to read every single word on your website. So this is a really great way to make sure you're still getting the point across, even if they don't read the paragraph underneath.
Don’t be afraid of “white space”
When you are working on the layout of your site, don't be afraid of what’s called “white space”. This is simply the space around your content which helps it breathe and make it much easier to digest. So don't be shy putting in that extra little buffer space around your text to make it easier to read.
Mix up your layouts to keep it interesting
And as you're figuring out the layouts, don't be shy to mix things up! It really helps to keep it visually interesting which encourages people to keep reading.
When every single section looks exactly the same it gets boring, so you want to break that up and make it a little bit more dynamic to keep people scrolling and clicking through your site.
But prioritize CLARITY over everything else!
Above and beyond anything else, you do really want to prioritize clarity over being fun, having “character” or even beautiful design! All of that is secondary.
What you really want to do with your website is to make your point, show how you can help the right people and position yourself as the right solution for them.
So prioritize clarity and you'll be in the right headspace for making a website that converts!
