You want a website, but you’re wondering what pages you need, what content to include, how to design it… Making an easy actionable plan for your website is going to set you up for success and help you create a compelling website that will bring you clients.

Avoid overwhelm by outlining before touching your site

It's really important to make a strategic plan before you ever touch your site. This will help you avoid all of the overwhelm that can come when you try and make it up as you go along and think strategically about what you’re creating.

Sketch out your website on paper first

I highly encourage you to start by actually getting out a piece of old-fashioned paper & pencil and sketch out what it is you want your website to look like.

Now, you do not need to be an artist to do! The idea is to create a really simple layout of the different blocks of content you want to include and where you want things to go.

You’re aiming to organize the information you’re presenting to your website visitors, so it really helps to map out the plan before you dive into creating your site.

Decide your goals for your website so you can build towards them

Before you start clicking anything in your website builder, while you're in the sketching phase, it's really helpful to figure out what the goal is that you have for the website.

Knowing the ultimate aim of the site will help you build each of your pages with that goal in mind. And ultimately work towards driving people towards that goal as they work their way through your site.

Write out your to-dos & check them off as you go

Once you've got the sketch of your website figured out, your next best step is going to be to create a thorough to-do list for yourself of everything you're going to need to do to complete your website.

And you really do want to take the time to check them off as you go, because there are a lot of moving parts that are involved in creating a website and it can be very easy to be either overwhelmed by all of that or have things slip through the cracks.

So to make sure that you're setting yourself up for success and creating a website that’s going to work really hard for your business, you’ll want to think all of this through ahead of time. This is going to save you a lot of time and heartache in the long run!
