Why a good website is so important for your service-based business
A website is an integral part of any business, and even if you aren’t directly selling anything on your service-provider website is still a crucial part of your marketing.
It is the first impression that customers have of your business and allows you to showcase your brand. A good website can help you not only attract new customers and clients but keep them coming back.
What Makes a Good Website?
There are several factors that make a good website. The most important is that it is user-friendly and easy to navigate. Your website should be designed for your target audience and include relevant information about your business. It should also be aesthetically pleasing so that potential clients are drawn in and want to stay on the site.
Let's think about colors for a minute. Let’s say your favorite color is dark green, that doesn't mean it connects to your business, brand, or ideal customer. Your website should be designed for your audience, not necessarily based upon your own personal tastes or preferences.
But as a service provider, your personality and unique approach is also super important to showcase, but it should also be professional. Your site is the first impression clients have of your business. You want them to remember it as an enjoyable experience. Otherwise, they are more likely to move on and find something (and someone!) else.
How to Create a Good Website:
Here's the truth: you can't create a good website unless you understand your business messaging, offer(s), ideal audience, and brand. You need to get clear on those things before you can design your own website or hire a website designer to create one for you. Otherwise, you'll be in the constant hamster wheel of wanting to re-do your website over and over again as you try to figure out these foundational elements. It’s like building a house on quicksand instead of strong foundations you can trust!
I never said websites were simple!
After you understand those core elements of your business, it's time to start creating your website. This includes developing the design, mapping out your site pages, selecting images, and writing content. You'll also need to get your domain name and pick your website platform.
For service providers, I highly recommend Squarespace* which not only makes the process of building your user-friendly website super easy, it also offers built-in options to tackle your domain, email marketing, scheduling and even e-commerce if you decide to sell products down the line
What are the Benefits of a Good Website?
A good website can help you attract new clients and convert right-fit people to book sales / discovery calls and improves your bottom line. It will also assist you in building brand awareness and credibility.
One of the biggest benefits is that it allows you to showcase your business 24 hours a day, seven days a week!
Should You Hire a Website Designer?
I have a whole blog post about when it’s the right time to DIY your website vs hiring a Website Designer.
If you’re short on time, hate tech and design, or simply want to partner with a trusted expert to bring your website to life, I highly recommend hiring a good website designer. On the other hand, if you aren’t ready (or don’t want to!) hire a designer to work on your website, I’d love to invite you to check out Work Your Website.
