9Plus1 – Client Project Behind the Scenes

I’ve been busting to share this fresh and understated branding and web design project for a few weeks, and now it’s finally live I’m thrilled to share a little sneak behind the curtain of this project.

The Project

9Plus1 is a UK based subscription service for baby clothes with a focus on sustainability and ease of use for their busy mother clients.

The website had started construction when my clients realized that their new business needed a designer’s touch to align their branding and create a stunning, easy to use website design.

Strategy first

To start things off, I sent my clients a questionnaire asking them about their business and their ideal clients. I also asked them to share a Pinterest board with some images that spoke to them for their brand.

We then hopped on a call to review everything they sent me and to mastermind a clear and straightforward brand and website strategy together, one that speaks to their dream clients and serves their business as they get ready to launch.

Branding around their existing logo

An interested component of this project was working with their existing logo. They loved the catchy orange color of their logo and wanted to work it into a clean and fresh brand identity.

We refined the color palette together and landed on an array of colors inspired by fresh oranges and their bold green leaves.

Then I paired their logo with a set of fonts that complimented their style and were super easy to read, even on mobile where most of their new parent clients will find them.

Wireframing the website

To ensure that the website layout flowed perfectly, and that it led their potential clients through their site seamlessly, I created low-fidelity wireframes, or digital sketches, of each of their website pages.

This was particularly helpful to work out the account pages that existing clients would navigate to track their orders, change their subscriptions or edit their account details.

Creating beautiful website designs

With the website structure in place, I then layered in the branding and their photography and pulled everything together to create their final website designs.

We reviewed this, and every other stage, over quick zoom calls where we reviewed the work together via screen share and nailed down any edits needed to finalize the design.

Since the clients already had a developer, I collaborated with them to ensure that our designs would be executable within the client’s timeline and within their system. I then prepared all of the individual elements the developer needed to create the site and shared my detailed design files with them.

While it was a little funny to not build this web design myself, working with a client who already had their developer in place allowed me to sit purely in the design mindset for this project and stretch some creative muscles which was a lot of fun.

I no longer offer done-for-you web design services like this anymore, but I do have something even better (and more affordable!) that walks you through step-by-step how to craft a strategic website yourself! Learn more about my signature website design course Work Your Website right here!
